Welcome to our wine list, which we hope you will take a few moments to peruse, to find that perfect accompaniment to the meal you are about to enjoy.
For hundreds of years, since Roman times wine has been shipped into the historic Port of Leith and we are proud to be able offer you our carefully selected list in keeping with that tradition. Obviously we have sought the advice and counsel of two of the leading suppliers in Scotland and this list should be considered as our latest updated one.
Everyone has a personal preference in wine, and for this reason we hesitate to make firm suggestions others than to list what we are the major characteristics for each.
We have tried to assemble a selection that offers a full range of styles and prices from around the globe, from the long established names of the old world – to the newly respected and exceptional wines in their own unique way.
It is our earnest intention that the list will change as stocks inevitable run out and new exciting stocks become available and we will be holding special ‘Gourmet’ evenings when new dishes and new wines are introduced in our relaxing and enjoyable surroundings.
We hope you will make a selection form the list, from ancient times wine was always viewed as health promoting and there is no better a way to accompany fine food or to celebrate that ‘special’ occasion.
Our wine list has been set out in a fairly structured way, on this page we start with our ‘house wines’ with historic traditions to compliment exotic Eastern Cuisine.
HOUSE WINES (FRANCE-GEORGES DUBOEUF)
1. BRITANNIA SPICE (HOUSE RED) … £13.95
Beaujolais – style of wine, young fresh and juicy. Medium-bodied with a soft and smooth texture.
2. BRITANNIA SPICE (HOUSE WHITE) … £13.95
Dry and crisp with a fruity aroma and a clean acidity. The cleansing finish means it is a complement to our curries.

CHILE (RED WINE)
3. MERLOT CARMENERE CARBERNET Tamarind Garden … £15.95
This red provides ripe berry fruit and a spice to complement those in our cuisine.

This touch of Gewurztraminer lends a perfume which blends well with aromatic curries.

5. CABERNET SAUVIGNON, ALEXIS LICHINE Languedoc … £16.95
A classic cabernet produced by a famous and historic name in Bordeaux. Cassis and mulberry flavours.
6. COTES-DU-RHONE ‘ST ESPRIT’ Delas, Rhone Valley … £22.95
With Syrah to the fore, this has full berry fruit, violet, liquorice and spices. It has a generous, rounded palate and a long, elegant finish. A world class producer catching everybody’s eye in recent years.
FRANCE (WHITE WINES)
7. SANCERRE ‘LES LORYS’ Goulaine, Loire Valley … £29.95
The quintessential expression of Sauvignon Blanc from its spiritual homeland in the Loire. Fresh and complex withgreen herbs and citrus.
8. CHABLIS 1er CRU MONTMAINS Pico, Burgundy … £34.95
From one of the best vineyards in Chablis comes this fabulous wine. Fresh and complex, pronounced minerality and a richness indicative of its quality.
SPAIN (RED WINES)
9. RIOJA RESERVA Bodegas Conde de Valdemar … £29.95
Long aging in oak and in bottle gives the wine huge complexity and a soft supple texture. An amazing wine with great depth.
10. GRAN FEUDO CRIANZA Bodegas Julian Chivite … £19.95
Chivite is one of Spain’s oldest and most revered producers. This is a similar style to Rioja. Temprannillo based with a year in oak and more in bottle. Soft with savoury cherry and chocolate.

11. NERO d’AVOLA/ SANGIOVESE Angelo, Sicilia … £16.95
A soft and approachable blend from one of Italy’s hidden gems, the Nero d’Avola grape. Juicy redcurrants and cherry which also pairs with tomato based curries very well.

A modern classic wine: crisp green apples and juicy ripe pears with a textured finish.

Rich Australian wine with ripe fruit from the Shiraz and some aromatic perfume from the Viogner. An elegant wine that is very versatile.

Rich, tropical fruit flavours of Chardonnay are balanced with a zesty citrus lift from the Semillon.
CHILE (RED WINE)

Intense aroma of red fruit and spices on the nose. A balanced wine, round and of good persistency. This shows Merlot at its best, plumy fruit with a good backbone of cocoa and woody spice.
