Charity Nights
Britannia Spice was one of the first restaurants in Edinburgh to organise a benefit after the Boxing Day Tsunami. On 6 January, 2005, over 140 guests, including the local MP Mark Lazarowicz (pictured with Mr Saparamadu and Dr Uddin), enjoyed a buffet and raised £4,125, with the money going to Mr Saparamadu's homeland, Sri Lanka. In July 2004, a dinner was hosted to raise funds for the victims of the Bangladesh Floods.
The restaurant was the setting for a fund-raising evening in February 2005 in aid of two local IT workers' bid to ride motorbikes through the tough terrain of southern India as part of the 1,500-mile Enduro India challenge. In total the pair raised over £8,500 for three charities, the Worldwide Fund for Nature, the Pain and Palliative Care Society of India and the Rainbow Trust for terminally ill children in the UK.
